What you want in life actually put you into trouble. Your desires, if they are not properly targeted, will land you in trouble. Every connection in life today if not inspired or tacked-up by God, will land you in trouble. Listen! Your desires can be good; and they as well lead you into trouble. The devil knows your desire: and because he knows this, he is ready to spend whatever resources, to bring you desires. Since he knows he can’t get you any other way, he makes sure your desires are always around you.
For instance, if the devil knows you like men or women a lot, he will provide men and women around you. Whatever it is, the devil will set you up with your desire. That is why it is very necessary that you must control your desires. Every man is carried away by his thought.
In Mathew’s gospel – the account of the Alabaster box; it is said that Judas Iscariot was indignant. He simply said it was a waste of resources-what the woman did, he said it should have been sold and given to the poor. The bible made us understand he said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief. In the ease of Judas, he desire was MONEY! As people vary in looks and other things, so also do they vary in their desires. What has got people into a lot of trouble; that they spend much, and go through a lot to come out of; is nothing more than their desires.
In II Kings 25:21-27 This is the account of Elisha’s servant-Gehazi. He ran after Naaman, to collect the gift his master rejected. Beware! For it is not every gift you should receive. He never knew that the gift was associated with leprosy. There are some problems that are associated with gifts. This is why you should learn to control your desires, otherwise, you would land into the same problem which the giver of the gift had always been. So many gifts could be fine and shinning, but they could be coated “Leprosy”
Wisdom demands that there are some things you would have to let go off, in life the best way to fulfill your ministry or your given life’s assignment, is by letting go of some things, so that God can come in. this has to be done willingly. Gehazi was at the verge of making a good and meaningful decision of his life. We know the story Elisha. The bible tells us that he served faithfully. And when it came time for a double portion of his master’s anointing, he had to let go of so many things like self esteem, because he was already an anointed man of . he also followed his master to the different places they went, until he got what he desired. I pray God will set your desires right. Amen.
However, Gehazi was not ready to follow after the same manner; he was after something. Don’t allow your desires to control you! II Kings 5:22 made us to understand that his desire became his master. Once your desire becomes your master, your safety is no longer guaranteed. It’s amazing how often we say and do a lot of things, just because of our desires. He prepared in his mind-what to say-just to get his desires (vs 22, 23 & 23)
Coming to church does not kill your desires. Your desires will put you into trouble, if you don’t watch it. (vs 27). Being as leader or a Pastor will not kill your desires. Rather, your heart will help you control it. Ladies and gentlemen there are better things in life that God wants to give to you, if you can only control your desires.
There are different things that generate desires in us.
One. idea of acquiring more. You want to acquire more. You want to be in charge. Wherever you enter, you want the people there to bow for you, or pay homage. Are you God?! Why should you desire such worship?
Secondly, it is the idea of being a star. We want to be esteemed high, or recognized – every where we go.
Thirdly, it’s the mind to always be above. As regards this, some misinterpret or misunderstand the scripture that says “you will be the head and not the tail, you will be above only, and not beneath” (paraphrased) should that make you betray your brother or sister or friend? Should that make you do the things that ought not to be done – For Christ sake, We have lost the ethics and values for our grace. This makes me marvel at the things that happen in church, yet doesn’t happen in the outside world.
Because of this, we don’t really help ourselves like we should within the church. Why? Because you don’t know who is real or who is pretending. It seems hard because it’s as if we are all the same. This is mostly because we have let go of our values and self esteem; and we are now like commoners. If we can’t take care of ourselves, how can we care for the world? If we don’t love ourselves, how can we show the world love?
Finally, my brethren, control your desires, and let brotherly love continue!
